Last week was a beautiful week to kick off the field season!
I was out and about in southeast Saskatchewan searching abandoned yards and visible nests for Great Horned owl pellets.
A typical abandoned barn where Great Horned owls like to roost during the day.
A nest I checked for Great Horned owl presence.
I found several samples between Melville and Kipling, all in buildings ranging in size from small grain bins to large barns!
My first collection this year!
Some of the pellets I collected 🙂
Hit the jackpot in an open quonset! Pellets everywhere!
I also found one Great Horned owl roosting in a barn.
A Great Horned owl patiently waiting for me to finish collecting his pellets before returning to roost in the barn.
Plus I watched the northern lights while on my way home 🙂
Northern lights on the drive home
Overall, a successful field trip!
